DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis defeated Portland State, 7-0, Friday afternoon in a non-conference men's tennis match at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The win extended the Aggies' home winning streak to four and improved the team to 9-10 on the year. It was the second time this year UC Davis blanked Portland State. The Aggies swept the doubles matches before claiming all six in singles.
Hunter Lee and Tyler Lee were the first to finish for the Aggies in doubles when they defeated Jeff Cero and Alex VanDerschelden, 8-3, at No. 3. UC Davis clinched the first point of the match as a result of Nic Amaroli and Kevin Liang. The duo defeated Adam Blackner and Sean Eberle, 8-4, at No. 2. Justin Garcia and Henri Landes completed doubles with a victory at No. 1.
In singles, Shaun Garcia posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Cero at No. 6 to up the lead to 2-0. The next to finish was Daniel Elefant, who won his third straight match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Blackner at No. 3. The clinching victory came off the racquet of Tyler Lee, who defeated Eberle at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2.
The final three points for UC Davis were from Hunter Lee, Landes and Justin Garcia. At No. 5, Lee posted a 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Alex Hart. Landes outlasted VanDerschelden at No. 1, 6-4, 7-5. Garcia capped off the match with a come-from behind victory over Kyle Erickson at No. 2. The Viking won the first set 6-4 before Garcia rallied to win the final two sets, 6-2, 7-5. Garcia won the final three games of the third set to preserve his team's shutout.
Earlier in the year, UC Davis defeated Portland State (5-13) by the same score on Feb. 2 in Portland. Overall, the Aggies are 5-1 at home with two home contests remaining.
UC Davis is next in action Saturday when it faces Nevada in Reno at 2 p.m. The Aggies will then return home to host No. 70 UC Irvine on Sunday.
