FRESNO, Calif.- - Senior Daniel Elefant and junior Michael Reiser won their doubles match, 9-8 in a tie breaker, but UC Davis lost the doubles point and were blanked during singles competition in a 7-0 loss to No. 52 Fresno State Saturday afternoon in a nonconference men's tennis match at Wathen Tennis Center.
The loss evens the Aggies record at 8-8 on the season. Fresno State, who defeated DePaul earlier in the day, 6-1, have now won three straight matches to improve its record to 13-7.
Elefant and Reiser earned the Aggies only win with an exciting 9-8 decision in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles over A.J. Kerin and Taylor Leiby. Elefant, Henri Landes and Hunter Lee nearly picked off set wins in singles play, but each narrowly lost by one.
The Bulldogs did not drop a set in singles play. They were led by No. 104 Rudolf Siwy who won his No.2 singles match, 6-4 and 6-1, and teamed with Mirko Zapletal to win the No. 1 doubles match, 8-1.
UC Davis returns to Big West Conference action next Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at UC Santa Barbara.
