BERKELEY, Calif. - UC Davis had its three-match winning streak snapped Saturday in a 7-0 loss at California. The No. 9 Golden Bears won all doubles and singles matches to improve to 4-2 on the year. It was the third ranked opponent the Aggies have faced in four road matches. The loss drops UC Davis to 3-4.
In doubles, Bojana Bobusic and Rachael Dillon were the first to finish with an 8-1 win at No. 3 over Anita Athavale and Emma Shapiro. The Bears were able to clinch the doubles point when Susie Babos and Stephanie Kusan, ranked No. 36 nationally, defeated Robin Guier and Randi Schuler at No. 1 by a score of 8-3. At No. 2, it was Marina Cossou and Claire Ilcinkas over Jenna Kappel and Herzyl Legaspi, 8-2.
Cal won all of the singles matches in straight sets. The first match to finish was at No. 1 where Babos defeated Schuler, 6-1, 6-1. Babos, ranked No. 10, was one of three nationally ranked Bears in action Saturday. No. 31 Bobusic prevailed over Athavale at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 3, it was No. 54 Cristina Visico who defeated Legaspi, 6-0, 6-0.
UC Davis is next in action Monday afternoon when it begins Big West Conference action with a match at Pacific.
