DAVIS, Calif. - Miles Hadley and Sule Anibaba each scored first half goals to lead No. 16 UC Davis past visiting Cal Poly, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in Big West Conference men's soccer action at Aggie Soccer Stadium. The win improved the Aggies to 9-1-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in the Big West. Cal Poly dropped to 6-3-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.
The Aggies wasted little time seizing early control of the game with Hadley's goal in the fourth minute. The score was set up by a throw-in by Paul Marcoux along the right sideline, and Hadley found the right side of the net with a header to put UC Davis up 1-0 just 3:49 into the contest. It was Hadley's second goal of the season.
UC Davis added to the lead in the 26th minute when Anibaba connected for his fourth goal of the year. The sequence began with a shot by Dylan Curtis straight out from about 20 yards. Mustang keeper, Eric Branagan-Franco dove to punch Dylan's shot away, and Anibaba found the loose ball near the right baseline and blasted a shot into the left corner for a 2-0 Aggie lead. The assist was Dylan's team-leading 10th of the year.
For the game, UC Davis outshot Cal Poly, 11-7. Marcoux led the Aggies with three shots while Curtis and Hadley each had two. Wes Feighner and Jeff Meyer, Jr., led the Mustangs with two shots apiece.
Ryan McCowan picked up his fourth shutout of the season while finishing the game with a pair of saves. Branagan-Franco posted three saves for the Mustangs.
UC Davis is next in action Wednesday at Cal State Fullerton.
