LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State defeated UC Davis, 1-0, Friday afternoon in the Big West Conference opener for both teams in Long Beach. The lone goal for the 49ers came off the foot of Sahar Haghdan in the 37th minute. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for UC Davis (5-3-2) and was the first for the Aggies in more than a month.
The game was scoreless through the first 36 minutes before Haghdan scored her first goal of the year to put Long Beach State on top 1-0. Haghdan was able to dribble past the keeper to find the net on the unassisted goal. The score remained 1-0 for the final eight minutes of the half.
Each team was credited with five shots in the second half, but none resulted in goals, as Long Beach State held on for the one-goal victory. For the game, UC Davis outshot LBSU, 9-7.
Samantha Faber led the Aggies with five shots while Marisa Boge finished with two. Rochelle VanBuskirk and Lisa Kemp each posted one shot. Sarah Peters posted three saves in goal for UC Davis.
Friday's game was the fifth in a six-game stretch on the road for UC Davis. The loss was the team's first on the trip and the first, overall, since Aug. 31. Long Beach State improved to 7-3-2 overall.
UC Davis concludes the road trip Sunday at UC Irvine.
