Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. - Senior Quincy Amarikwa netted his second score of the game in the 86th minute to cap a two-goal rally and lift No. 8 UC Davis to a 3-2 victory over Cal State Northridge during a Big West Conference men's soccer game at Aggie Soccer Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Aggies tallied two goals in a little over five minutes to erase a 2-1 deficit.

The win lifts the Aggies' overall record to 12-2-2 and 4-1-2 in conference play while the Matadors drop their first conference game of the season to fall to 2-1-2 and 6-5-3 overall. With the win, UC Davis has not lost consecutive games since Sept. 6, 2006 and continues to lead in the conference standings.

Amarikwa tallied his fourth two-goal game of the season to capture his 14th and 15th goals. That total ties him for the national lead. Overall, Amarikwa led all players with six shots and three shots on goal. Senior Dylan Curtis scored the other Aggie goal while senior Ian Conklin and junior Paul Marcoux added the assists.

The only two shots the Matadors took resulted in scores. They opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Camilo Rojas toed in a pass from Dylan Riley in the right corner of the goal to put UC Davis behind for the third consecutive game.

Amarikwa tied the game just one second into the 12th minute with a shot in front of the goal. Amarikwa collected a ball from junior Paul Marcoux and sent it to the upper left corner past a diving goalkeeper.

Cal State Northridge was issued a red card in the 17th minute and was forced to play a man down the remainder of the game. Despite the set back, the Matadors struck again at 23:39 to jump ahead, 2-1. Sunghyun Kim took a pass from Luis Smith and found space in the box to get off a shot that got past Aggie goalkeeper Ryan McCowan.

The Matadors held the one-goal advantage into the 81st minute before senior Dylan Curtis knocked home an unassisted strike from about 15 yards out to tie things at 2-2. Amarikwa scored the eventual game-winning goal just over five minutes later as he headed in a cross from Ian Conklin.

The Aggies held a 16-2 shot advantage and managed six corner kicks to the Matadors' one. Cal State Northridge was issued another red card with under two minutes left to go two men down the remainder of the contest.

Matador goalie Kevin Guppy finished with two saves while McCowan played all 90 minutes for his 12th victory of the season. A total of eight Aggies recorded shots in the contest with Marcoux and redshirt freshman Nate Jarman both getting off multiple attempts.

UC Davis returns home on Saturday to host No. 20 UC Irvine at 1:00 p.m.
