BERKELEY, Calif. - UC Davis began the 2008 ITA Northwest Championships Friday in Berkeley with a full slate of singles matches. A total of eight Aggies were in action and four advanced through their first round matches. Chris Aria, Nick Hallchurch, Nick Lopez and Michael Reiser all picked up wins in the round of 128.

Aria posted a come-from-behind victory over Pacific's Vegerd Veskimagi. The Tiger won the first set 6-0 before Aria came back to win the second set 6-3 before taking the third set 6-4. Hallchurch cruised past Portland State's Jeff Cero, 6-2, 6-1. Lopez battled Artur Klimenka of Sacramento State to a 7-5, 6-4 victory while Reiser was also a straight sets winner against Oregon's Sho Higuchi. Each of the Aggies' first round winners were defeated in the second round.

Nic Amaroli, Hunter Lee, Tyler Lee and Kevin Liang will all represent UC Davis in the singles consolation draw beginning Saturday. In addition, all eight players will take part in the doubles main draw on Saturday.
