Oct. 12, 2008

Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Marisa Boge scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute as UC Davis posted its first Big West Conference win with a 2-1 victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton Sunday at Aggie Soccer Stadium. Rachel Kahn also scored for the Aggies, who improved to 6-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the Big West. Lisa Kemp assisted on both UC Davis goals.

The Aggies' first score was initiated by a corner kick by Kemp in the 35th minute. After sending the ball into the box from the right corner, Kemp regained possession about five yards from the sideline. The freshman then fed a pass in front of the goal that Kahn one-timed into the net to give UC Davis a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of Kahn's career.

The Aggies would keep the 1-0 lead heading into halftime as well as the first 20 minutes of the second half. In the 66th minute, the Titans evened the score at 1-1 when Christina Murillo connected from in front of the goal. Jenae Gibbens started the sequence with a throw-in. Stacey Fox met the ball with a header that landed at the feet of Murillo.

In the 82nd minute, the Aggies would regain the lead. Kemp started the play with a pass to Boge from just past midfield. Boge dribbled down the right side, about 15 yards away, and blasted a shot past the keeper into the left corner of the net to give UC Davis a 2-1 lead. The Aggie defense held the Titans scoreless in the final 7:15 of the game.

In all, UC Davis outshot Cal State Fullerton, 18-7. Rochelle VanBuskirk finished with a game-high five shots while Boge attempted four. Kemp now has three assists on the year.

Sarah Peters had three saves and picked up her sixth win of the year. It was the eighth straight game the sophomore allowed one or fewer goals.

UC Davis is next in action Oct. 17 at Cal State Northridge.
