MORAGA, Calif. - Jenna Kappel advanced to the final of the blue singles consolation draw as UC Davis completed the second day of the Saint Mary's Invitational Saturday in Moraga. In addition, Jessica Harris advanced in the white singles main draw before falling in the quarterfinals.
Harris was one of three Aggies to advance as far as the quarterfinals in their respective main draws. The senior started her day with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Nevada's Samantha Smith before falling to Saint Mary's Erin Young in the quarterfinals.
In the blue singles main draw, Santa Clara's Kelly Buckley defeated Noelle Eades, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. Also in the same round, Shawdee Rouhafza fell to Gonzaga's Clare Dodge, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
In consolation action, Kappel defeated Madeline Parker of Gonzaga, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) in the first round before holding on to edge Washington's Lauren Summers, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8). Emma Shapiro also played in a pair of consolation matches and picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win against San Jose State's Sanda Hadzisabic.
Kappel is scheduled to face Santa Clara's Kimi Cox in Sunday's blue consolation final.
