Hatifie, Amarikwa Earn National Weekly Honors

Oct. 1, 2008

DAVIS, Calif. - It was announced Wednesday by TopDrawerSoccer.com that UC Davis seniors Ahmad Hatifie and Quincy Amarikwa have been named to their National Team of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 28. It marks the first weekly honors of Hatifie's career and the fourth time Amarikwa has been honored this season.

The duo helped lead the Aggies to a 4-1 victory over Air Force on Saturday with two goals apiece. It was a career-high goal total for Hatifie and marked the second time this season Amarikwa has tallied two goals in a single game. Both of Hatifie's goals came five minutes apart and were 15-yard strikes that sailed into the top corner of the goal. Hatifie's first goal held up as the eventual game winner.

Amarikwa scored the first goal of the game in the 33rd minute as he drove around the Falcon goalkeeper to get an open shot on an empty net. His second goal came in the 89th minute off a free kick to seal the win and give the Aggies a single game season-high goal total. Amarikwa was honored earlier this season with Big West Conference Player of the Week honors and College Soccer News and Soccer America National Team of the Week honors.

The 16th-ranked Aggies play No. 18 UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium tonight at 7 p.m.
