Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by South Carolina, 2-1, in women's soccer action Friday in Orlando. The Aggies were taking on the Gamecocks in the first round of the UCF Invitational. South Carolina entered the day ranked No. 22 in the NSCAA/adidas Top-25. Samantha Faber scored the lone goal for the Aggies, who dropped to 2-1 on the year.

The game was scoreless until the 74th minute when Faber connected on an unassisted goal to put UC Davis in front 1-0. The freshman dribbled from right to left and blasted a shot across the box into the net for her first collegiate goal. At that point, it was the first time all season the Gamecocks had trailed in a game.

South Carolina (3-0) wasted little time evening the score when Erin Sullivan connected three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.

The game would remain tied until Darcel Mollon scored her third goal of the year in the 85th minute to put South Carolina in front for the first time.

In all, South Carolina outshot UC Davis 19-9. Faber, Dayna Dumont, Jordan Martin and Marisa Boge each had two shots. Mollon led USC with seven shots.

"I'm pleased with our effort. I thought we battled with them," said UC Davis head coach MaryClaire Robinson. "We started off a little slow, but we put some things together and surprised them a bit."

South Carolina began its season last weekend with an upset of top-ranked North Carolina on the road.

UC Davis will conclude the tournament Sunday when it faces host UCF. The Golden Knights entered Friday with a 1-1 record prior to facing UNLV in the tournament's other first round game.
