Aggies Rally Behind Anibaba's Hat Trick To Beat Pitt

Box Score

Sept. 2, 2007

Final Stats

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Sule Anibaba recorded his first career hat trick and Chris Leer scored his first collegiate goal to give UC Davis a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Pittsburgh in a non-conference collegiate soccer game on the final day of the Ramada Xavier Challenge at XU Soccer Complex.

The Aggies split their two games at the tournament and now stand 1-1 on the season. The Panthers are now 0-1-1.

Pitt jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the contest as Matt Langton scored the first goal in the third minute and was followed five minutes later with a score from teammate E.J. McCormick.

UC Davis responded late in the half as Anibaba connected on two penalty kicks at the 30 and 38 minute marks to tie the score at 2-2 before halftime.

Anibaba, who scored two goals last season as a sohomore, capped a career-day with his third consecutive goal in the 67th minute in what proved to be the game-winner. Dylan Curtis supplied the assist on the third Anibaba goal off a cross in the box.

Leer added his first collegiate goal at the 77 minute mark off an assist from freshman Chris Beville to pad the Aggie lead. It was also the first collegiate assist for Beville.

Brian Wickers patrolled the goal in his third career start and recorded two saves to earn the victory - the first of his Aggie career.

As a team, UC Davis doubled the Panthers shot total, 19-8, and managed to find the frame eight times. Pitt tallied four shots on goal. The Aggies also held the advantage in corner kicks, 2-1.

UC Davis hosts Oregon State next Friday at 5 p.m. in its home opener at Aggie Soccer Stadium. They then host Portland Sunday at 1 p.m.
