CORVALLIS, Ore. - Junior Sule Anibaba scored his team-leading fifth and sixth goals of the season, and junior Quincy Amarikwa and sophomore Paul Marcoux each tallied scores for the second straight game as UC Davis defeated Oakland, 4-2, Saturday night in a non-conference men's soccer game at Paul Lorenz Field during the Oregon State Diadora Classic.
The Aggies, who scored all four goals in the first half, finish 2-0 at tournament and extend their unbeaten streak to five games and now stand 4-1-1. The Golden Grizzles fall to 2-1-2 with the loss.
Until Oakland scored in the 31st minute, UC Davis had scored 10 consecutive goals dating back to Sept. 9 and 20 overall in the first six games of the season.
Anibaba recorded three goals during the two-game tournament and now leads all Aggies with six goals on the season. He scored his second goal off a penalty kick and is now a perfect 4-for-4 on PK's.
Marcoux tallied his second consecutive game with a goal and has now found the back of the net three times this season. Amarikwa assisted on Marcoux's goal and has also recorded scores in consecutive games.
Brian Wickers recorded another three saves in goal to up his season total to 24 and earn his fourth win in his last seven starts.
Anibaba got the scoring started for the Aggies in the 14th minute as he scored from 16 yards out off an assist from senior Nicholas Lind, who has now recorded assists in two straight games.
Marcoux upped the UC Davis lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute as he took a pass from Amarikwa and put it past the Oakland goalkeeper from six yards out. Amarikwa added his own goal three minutes later on an unassisted strike.
Stew Givens put Oakland on the board in the 31st minute to cut off the Aggies' consecutive goal streak.
Anibaba's second goal of the game came off a penalty kick in the 33rd minute and capped the UC Davis scoring.
Gabe Hernandez rounded out the scoring for the Grizzlies as he tallied a score unassisted in the 63rd minute to make the final score, 4-2.
The Aggies managed to outshoot Oakland, 15-9, and got off 10 shots on goal to only five for the Grizzlies.
Steve Clark managed six saves in goal for Oakland.
UC Davis next plays on Sunday as the renew their Causeway Cup rivalry with Sacrament State at Hornet Soccer Field at 2:30 p.m.
