DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis defeated Saint Mary's, 3-0, Saturday in a men's soccer exhibition at Aggie Soccer Stadium. Nicholas Lind, Miles Hadley and Quincy Amarikwa all scored goals for UC Davis. The exhibition was the only preseason contest for the Aggies, who open their season next weekend in Ohio.

Lind started the scoring in the 12th minute when he connected from the left side, about 20 yards out, to give UC Davis a 1-0 lead. The Aggies would keep that 1-0 edge through halftime.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Hadley blasted a 5-yarder into the back of the net to make it 2-0. Amarikwa would finish the scoring when he raced past the defender and angled a shot from the right side into the goal.

"What pleases me most is that we won, and we scored three goals," said UC Davis head coach Dwayne Shaffer. "

"Even though it's an exhibition game, our goal is to improve and learn from this game so we can improve on everything," added Shaffer. "Learning how to win is a big part of the game."

In all, the Gaels outshot the Aggies, 15-13. Ian Conklin led UC Davis with three shots while Lind and Amarikwa each had two.

Brian Wickers started in goal for the Aggies before being replaced in the 74th minute. He finished with four saves.

UC Davis begins its season Aug. 31 when it takes on Xavier in the first round of the Ramada Xavier Challenge in Cincinnati. The Aggies will face Pittsburgh two days later before returning home.
