Aggies Blank Wildcats In Scrimmage

Aug. 21, 2007

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis continued its preseason efforts Tuesday with a scrimmage against Chico State at Aggie Soccer Stadium. In a format that featured three 30-minute periods, the Aggies defeated the Wildcats, 3-0, behind a pair of goals from Dayna Dumont and another by Mari Egan. The contest was the first of two for UC Davis before it officially opens its 2007 season Aug. 31 against Kent State.

Dumont, a senior, put the Aggies on the board in the first period with a goal in the 21st minute. Dumont, who led the Aggies in scoring a year ago, made the most of her opportunities in Tuesday's scrimmage by scoring on both of her shot attempts. Her final goal came midway through the third period when she connected in the 69th minute to make it 2-0.

Freshman Mari Egan capped off the UC Davis scoring with a goal in the 83rd minute to give UC Davis a 3-0 lead.

UC Davis is back in action Friday when it faces Cal in an exhibition at Aggie Soccer Stadium at 11 a.m. The Golden Bears, the defending Pac-10 champions, are ranked No. 13 in the College Soccer News preseason poll and No. 18 in the NSCAA/adidas Top 25.
