Hogan Receives Award From National Athletic Trainers' Association

DAVIS, Calif. - Jeff Hogan, UC Davis Director of Athletic Training Services, has been honored with an Athletic Trainer Service Award from the National Athletic Trainers' Association and will be recognized at the organization's annual meeting this week in Anaheim.

The award is given for dedication to the professional and committment to local and national associations.

Hogan is entering his 24th year on the UC Davis Athletic Training Staff this fall, serving the past 20 years as Director of Athletic Training Services. Hogan oversees a staff of four certified athletic trainers and one physical therapist and is responsible for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries for the Aggies' 26-team varsity athletics program which is comprised of 800 student-athletes.

Hogan came to UC Davis in 1984 as Assistant Athletic Trainer when the staff consisted of just two full-time individuals. He assumed head athletic trainer reponsibilities in 1987 and has overseen his staff's growth to its current levels. A large component of the athletic training staff's operations consists of approximately 30 student athletic trainers who work under the supervision of full-time staff learning the skills and knowledge of athletic training.

Prior to UC Davis, Hogan was Assistant Athletic Trainer from 1981 to 1984 at Santa Clara University in the Bay Area.

Besides his collegiate athletic training experience, Hogan has served as Athletic Trainer at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials at Sacramento State in 2000 and was Assistant Sports Medicine Coordinator for The Volleyball Festival, hosted at UC Davis, from 1984 to 2000.

Hogan has served as a guest lecturer for UC Davis and also the UC Davis Medical Center and from 1984 to 2000 taught an upper-division lecture/lab course at the university entitled "Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries." He has had co-authored an award-winning article for the Journal of Athletic Training and was a contributing author to a textbook titled "Athletic Training: Principles and Practice".

Hogan has been a guest speaker at several symposiums and conferences including The German Academy of Applied Sports Medicine (2004), the Annual Sports Medicine Conference (2002) - also in Germany - and the NATA Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposium in Los Angeles (2001).

Hogan holds professional memberships in the NATA and California Athletic Trainers' Association (CATA) and has held various committee and leadership positions in each organization. He has been honored by both groups as well, most recently with a NATA Trainer Service Award in 2007 and a CATA Special Service Award in 2006.

The NATA Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposia is scheduled for June 26-30.
