RENO, Nev. - Nevada topped UC Davis, 6-1, in men's tennis action Sunday in Reno. The Wolf Pack began the day by winning the doubles point before going on to win five out of six matches in singles. Justin Garcia picked up the lone point for the Aggies with a win at No. 4. The win was the third in four matches for Nevada, which improves to 9-10. UC Davis falls to 5-12.
In doubles, Nevada won at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Benjamin David and Guerin defeated Daniel Elefant and Jayce Fitch, 8-3, at No. 2. Michael Chin and Garcia suffered a rare loss at No. 1 as Nevada's Laurent Garcin and Guillaume Tonelli posted an 8-4 victory. It's just the second time in 10 matches Chin and Garcia have not won at No. 1. UC Davis was victorious at No. 3 doubles as Henri Landes and Casey McMakin defeated Alex Daruty and Eldar Dzhafarov, 8-6.
All but one of the six singles matches finished in straight sets, and the Wolf Pack went 4-1 in those contests. Garcin and Benjamin won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Daruty and Augustin Myard did the same at No. 5 and No. 6.
At No. 4, Garcia defeated Arzhang Derakhshani, 7-6 (4), 6-2, to win his fifth straight match and eighth out his last nine.
The only three-set match took place at No. 3 as Tonelli outlasted Fitch, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-6 (3). Five of the 13 sets in singles were decided by a tiebreaker.
UC Davis is next in action Friday afternoon when it hosts Sacramento State to begin a three-match homestand to close out the season.
