Aggies Suffer Rare Home Defeat To Harvard

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis resumed its spring schedule Friday afternoon as it was defeated by visiting Harvard, 6-1, at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Crimson won two out of three matches in doubles to claim the match's first point before winning five times in singles. With the defeat, UC Davis falls to 9-8 on the season. The loss is just the second all season for the Aggies at home.

The first doubles match to finish was at No. 2 when Harvard's Elizabeth Brook and Preethi Mukundan defeated Anita Athavale and Emma Shapiro, 8-2. The Aggies evened the doubles tally when Andrea Phillips and Desiree Stone posted an 8-5 victory over Vilsa Curto and Julia Forgie. Harvard (2-10) clinched the point with an 8-6 victory by Beier Ko and Lena Litvak at No. 1.

In singles, the Crimson won the first three matches to finish, all in straight sets, to take a 4-0 lead and clinch the victory. Forge and Curto, at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively also picked up victories as they prevailed in super-tiebreakers.

Jessica Harris posted the lone singles victory for UC Davis with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rachel Gottlieb at No. 6.

The match was the first for the Aggies since March 10.

UC Davis is back in action Saturday when it hosts UC Santa Barbara at 11 a.m. at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
