Junior Mary Lowe scored two goals to lead 11 Aggie scorers as seventh-ranked UC Davis beat Maryland, 12-3, in non-conference women's collegiate water polo action at Schaal Aquatics Center Friday. The Aggies, who recently completed a 12-day layoff from competition due to final examinations, improve to 16-4 overall.

Both of Lowe's goals came in the second quarter, helping UC Davis finish a 8-1 first half. The Aggies were somewhat slow out of the gates, committing a turnover and missing two shots off the crossbar before junior Casie Mota assisted junior Christi Raycraft for the game's first goal at 5:48. Jessica Soza then doubled the lead to 2-0 on a rebound and putback at 5:02 in the first.

Maryland managed to reach the scoreboard when Elizabeth Hopkins connected on an outside shot with 2:14 left in the first period. But the Aggies finished with six unanswered goals through the second quarter. Lowe hit an even-strength goal at 2:33 in the second, then converted a 6-on-5 chance with 1:11. Freshman Heidi Kucera, who assisted Lowe's second goal, picked up a steal at mid-tank then finished the counterattack with less than a minute before halftime.

Terp freshman Shannon Simerly broke her team's scoreless drought early in the third period when she scored on an advantage goal. UC Davis was held scoreless in the period despite two 6-on-5 opportunities.

Freshman Dana Nelson and sophomore Sarah Odegard each converted man-up chances in a four-goal fourth period. Maryland managed one more strike in the fourth as Orsi Ferenczy sent a seven-meter blast into the Aggie net at the 4:40 mark.

Aggie senior Amber Korner led all goalies in the game, posting eight saves against two goals in her three quarters of work.

UC Davis heads to Southern California to open a three-game road set at No. 10 Loyola Marymount on Saturday. The Aggies will also take on No. 15 Long Beach State and No. 6 UC Irvine during their Spring Break trip.
