DAVIS, Calif. - Former UC Davis water polo athletes
Kelly Hungerford, Ally Clague, and Emily Aikema have all signed international contracts this summer, with Hungerford heading to Greece to play for P.A.O.K. and Clague and Aikema competing for Real Canoe N.C. in Spain.
Kelly Hungerford
Graduating this past summer after a successful four-year career with the Aggies, Hungerford begins her professional career with P.A.O.K. Water Polo Club in Greece.
Based out of Thessaloniki, P.A.O.K. has emerged as one of the top women's water polo clubs in the country, finishing this past season top five in the A1 Ethniki Water Polo league, the highest professional water polo league in Greece. This finish propelled P.A.O.K. to promotion in the European Aquatics Champions League for the 2025-26 season, the top tier of water polo competition in all of Europe.
A two-time team captain with UC Davis, Hungerford enjoyed many accomplishments during her time with the blue and gold. This past season, she wrote her way into the top of the Aggie record book, breaking the team's all-time assist record while being named to the Honorable Mention team from both the Big West and the ACWPC.
Ally Clague
A 2023 UC Davis graduate, Clague has signed on to her second season with Real Canoe N.C., located in Madrid, Spain.
Competing in División de Honor, the highest level of competition in Spain, the team has quickly emerged as one of the best in the country, taking the top spot in 2023, their first year in the Division.
Being named to the All-Big West Team three separate times and a ACWPC All-American once in her collegiate career, Clague was a force on both ends of the pool with the Aggies. As a senior in 2023, she registered a career-best 30 goals while also notching 27 steals and 10 field blocks. These performances earned her Big West Player of the Week honors twice during her final season.
Emily Aikema
After graduating from UC Davis in 2022, Aikema began her professional career in Portugal, playing with SL Benfica before jumping one country over to join Clague, her former teammate, at Real Canoe N.C.
At the attacker position, emerged in 2021 as one of the top offensive threats in the Big West Conference, leading the league in points (47) and assists (25) while also ranking third on the team with 22 goals.
The entire UC Davis family wishes these three former Aggies the best of luck as they embark on their new journeys.
