The Aggies snapped an eight-game winning streak to open the season, the best start since women's water polo reached varsity status in 2007... The team has been idle since finishing fourth at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational... UC Davis beat Redlands, 15-4, in the Triton Invite first-round game; then knocked off Michigan by a 13-6 decision... Junior Christi Raycraft scored four goals against Redlands, while sophomore Lindsay Kiyama had three for her second straight hat trick... Katherine O'Rourke led eight UC Davis scorers with a hat trick against the 13th-ranked Wolverines... She now has 114 career goals, tying her with Anne Harter for third on the school's career scoring leaderbaord... Senior GK Amber Korner recorded a career-best 15 saves against Michigan.
No. 6 San Diego State handed UC Davis its first loss, shutting out the Aggies in three quarters in an 8-4 semifinal... Junior Mary Lowe scored three of her four goals in the second half against Irvine, helping her team come back from a 6-3 halftime deficit... Junior Casie Mota added two goals vs. the Anteaters, including a 6-on-5 strike that tied the score at 8-8 near the end of the third period.
UP NEXT: UC Davis returns to action at the UC Irvine Invitational on February 24-25... The Aggies will open with WWPA rival Loyola Marymount, which catapulted from No. 11 to No. 7 in the national coaches' poll last week... LMU beat UC Irvine and San Diego State at the Triton Invitational two weeks ago... Senior and two-time All-American Stacia Peterson scored 13 goals in five wins to earn WWPA Player of the Week honors for Feb. 14.
The Aggies will either face No. 2 USC or No. 14 Long Beach State that afternoon, pending the outcome of their 10:15 matchup with the Lions... The Women of Troy lost a 10-8 overtime battle against Stanford Saturday, getting three goals from senior driver Patty Cardenas... Senior utility Brittany Hayes led the USC to a 12-5 win over No. 6 San Jose State on Sunday... The Beach lost a tough 11-9 road battle at Hawai'i on Friday... Both teams were tied at 8-8 through three quarters... Christina Wensman and sisters Cecilia and Marina Canetti each have nine goals in five games to pace the 49ers.
