DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore Drew Maraglia and redshirt freshman Abe Otrambo both earned technical falls in their first collegiate wrestling dual, and fellow redshirt freshman Barrett Abel won his match by major decision to lead UC Davis to a 32-6 victory over San Francisco State at Hickey Gymnasium Friday night.

The win bumps the Aggies' record to 1-1 in duals, while the Gators fall to 1-2. UC Davis, who had a total of four wrestlers competing in their first dual matches of the season, have now claimed 11 consecutive dual victories over SF State.

"Our younger guys really stepped up and performed exceptionally well tonight," said Aggie head coach Lennie Zalesky. "I thought we could have executed a little bit better technically, but overall I think we did very well."

Maraglia and Otrambo were both competing in their first dual competition as collegiate wrestlers. Maraglia earned a 19-3 technical fall in the 157-pound match against Josh Gonzales, while Otrambo's technical fall came 19-2 over Marcus DeAnda in the 184-pound bout. Maraglia had a total of five nearfalls to win in 5:57, while Otrambo reeled off five near falls and 19 consecutive points after giving up an early take down to end his match at 4:49.

Abel earned his first career major decision in a dual match with his 12-1 victory over Ali Lockett in the 149-pound bout. In only two career duals, Abel has now recorded a major decision and a technical fall.

Juniors Marcos Orozco (125) and Nexi Delgado (141), sophomores Kyle Dubs (165) and Jeff Prentice (174), and redshirt freshman Ricky Alcala (285) also won their respective matches. Dubs earned six points for the Aggies with a win by forfeit. Prentice earned an exciting 6-4 decision in sudden victory with a takedown with just 26 seconds remaining the extra period.

The Gators claimed decisions at 133 and 174 pounds. Both wins came by a combined three points.

UC Davis returns to Hickey Gym on Dec. 15 as they host a dual with Utah Valley State at 7 p.m. They finish the 2007 calender year the following Tuesday at the Reno Tournament of Champions.
