Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis had its senior day spoiled Sunday in a 2-0 loss to visiting Pacific at Aggie Soccer Stadium. Both teams played a scoreless first half before the Tigers scored twice in a nine-minute span midway through the second half. The loss ends the Aggies' season at 6-12-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the Big West. Pacific closed at 7-7-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the conference.

Neither team was able to get much going offensively in the first half as both combined for a total of five shots. Pacific had three shots in the first half. The second of those three was a bullet by Bunny Dickson in the 19th minute from about 30 yards out that Aggie keeper Sarah Peters was able to handle. Other than that, there was no serious threat on goal in the first half.

That changed in the 60th minute on a corner kick by Pacific. Laura King started the play from the left corner, and Andrea Carrara finished it with a header into the goal to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the season for Carrara.

Nine minutes later, in the 69th minute, Carla Vellutini was able to tap in a goal from inside the box on an assist from Mandi Van Dorn. That goal put the Tigers up 2-0 with under 22 minutes to play.

The advantage would hold up as UC Davis was held to a total of seven shots on the afternoon. Senior Julia Gamlen had two of those shots while seniors Dayna Dumont and Cynthia Dongo had one shot each. Rochelle VanBuskirk, Samantha Faber and Molly Scott also had a shot.

Peters finished with two saves in goal for the Aggies. The Tigers' Jaime Souza recorded her eighth shutout of the season for Pacific.

Pacific outshot UC Davis, 13-7. The Tigers took seven corner kicks compared to the Aggies' four. Each team committed 18 fouls.

Prior to the match, UC Davis honored its seven seniors. They included Lacey Cobb, Megan Daws, Dongo, Dumont, Gamlen, Annie McAllister and Megan Wall. The group finished their careers with a combined 299 matches played. Dumont finished her second straight season leading the team in points.
