Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Long Beach State defeated host UC Davis, 1-0, in Big West Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Stadium. Dana Farquhar scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 71st minute. The loss dropped UC Davis to 5-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Big West. Long Beach State stayed perfect in the conference at 2-0-0 and upped its season record to 9-4-0.

The 49ers were able to apply consistent pressure on the Aggies throughout the match and ended up holding an 18-4 advantage in shots. The UC Davis defense was up to the challenge, though, as the 49ers outshot the Aggies 6-1 in the first half but were not able to capitalize.

UC Davis keeper Sarah Peters, who finished with seven saves, had four stops in the first half. The first came on an attempt by Hayley Bolt in the 16th minute. In the 28th minute, Kim Silos took a shot from 20 yards out that hit off Peters outstretched hand and off the top of the post. With 22 seconds left in the half, Peters did another masterful job preventing a Long Beach State goal when Katelyn Quaresma pulled Peters out on the right side but had her shot stopped just a couple of feet after it left her foot.

It would take Long Beach State 13 shots before it would finally get on the board. Farquhar was able to get past the defender and lofted a shot from 10 yards over the head of Peters in the 71st minute to put the 49ers up 1-0. Kim Silos assisted on the goal.

"I thought we did some really nice things," said UC Davis head coach MaryClaire Robinson. "I thought we got a little tired and a little stretched, but we did some really nice things as a group. Defensively, we're starting to sort out the nuances of what we need to do, and I thought that was positive. As a team, we were a little sharper in the first half."

The Aggies were held to just four shots on the afternoon. Their three shots in the second half all came in a 1:35 span starting in the 77th minute. Lauren Huntley, Jordan Martin, Samantha Faber and Annie McAllister all had a shot for UC Davis.

Bolt and Silos each led Long Beach State with five shots each. Lindsey Bullock had three.

UC Davis is next in action Oct. 12 when it hosts Saint Mary's in a non-conference match. That contest will end a stretch of five straight matches at home.
