FRESNO, Calif. - UC Davis concluded play at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic Sunday with a pair of victories. One of those wins was the Flight 2 doubles final as Daniel Elefant and Michael Reiser took home an early season title. Reiser was also victorious on the singles side as he won a consolation semifinal in Flight 2 before falling in the final. The tournament, which began Friday, was the first of four the Aggies will be participating in this fall.
After winning twice on Saturday, Elefant and Reiser advanced to Sunday's final to take on Cal's Zach Gilbert and Ken Nakara. The Golden Bears' tandem had raced through the previous three rounds without allowing more than four games in any match. On Sunday, it was Elefant and Reiser who would not allow their opponents to win more than four games as they prevailed by a score of 8-4.
In singles, Reiser defeated UC Santa Barbara's Eric Lee, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the Flight 2 consolation final. Another Gaucho, Max Taylor, would go on to defeat Reiser, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5).
UC Davis is next in action Oct. 12 when it begins play at the ITA Northwest Championships in Seattle, Wash.
