FRESNO, Calif. - UC Davis went a combined 4-2 in its matches Saturday on the second day of the Fresno State Bulldog Classic in Fresno. Michael Reiser won all three of his matches, including two in Flight 2 doubles with fellow Aggie Daniel Elefant. The pair won quarterfinal and semifinal matches to advance to Sunday's final.
After winning their round of 16 match on Friday, Elefant and Reiser began Saturday with a quarterfinal match-up with Fresno Pacific's Marco Foelz and Fabio Silva. The Aggie duo went on to claim an 8-5 victory. In the semifinals, it took 16 games to decide the winner as Elefant and Reiser posted a 9-7 victory over Washington's Brad Bator and David Chu.
In the singles consolation draw, Justin Garcia split the first two sets of a Flight 2 round-of-16 match with Washington's Martin Kildahl before taking a super-tiebreaker by a score of 10-8. The same scenario unfolded for Garcia in his quarterfinal battle with UC Santa Barbara's Max Taylor before the Gaucho took the super-tiebreaker, 12-10. It was also a super-tiebreaker that lifted Reiser past Cal Poly's Blake Wardman in another Flight 2 consolation quarterfinal match.
In Flight 3, Matt Jagiello was defeated by Cal's Andy Chirita, 6-3, 6-2.
The three-day tournament concludes Sunday. Elefant and Reiser will face Cal's Zach Gilbert and Ken Nakahara in the Flight 2 doubles final.
