Arrigo Lifts UC Davis To Overtime Win Over Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Senior driver Nick Arrigo the game-tying goal in the fourth quarter then the game-winner in overtime to lift 10th-ranked UC Davis to a 9-8 win over No. 14 UC San Diego in a Western Water Polo Association men's game at Canyonview Pool Friday evening.

The Aggies move to 15-5 for the season and remain unbeaten in WWPA play. The Tritons fall to 10-12 for the year.

Arrigo's hat trick led the Aggies, while junior Adam Bennett added two more. Joseph Smith, Paul Wilson, Grant Muenter and Aaron Salit also tallied one goal apiece. Chance Vermilyea, Curtis Williamson and Daniel Garcia each had two goals for UCSD.

The Tritons took a 7-6 lead with 1:41 remaining in regulation on a goal by Ben Miller, but Arrigo hit the equalizer on the next possession to tie the game and force the overtime. Arrigo then hit the go-ahead with a fraction of a second remaining in the first overtime. Muenter pushed the UC Davis lead to two goals early in the second overtime period, then Williamson put the Tritons within a goal with just under a minute remaining.

The Aggies continue a tough Southern California weekend with a road game at Loyola Marymount Saturday.
