Final Stats

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Daniel Cumming, David Zamora and Kyle Montgomery all scored goals and goalkeeper Eric Branagan-Franco made three saves to earn his sixth shutout of the season as Cal Poly defeated UC Davis 3-0 in a Big West men's soccer game Sunday afternoon in front of 2,052 at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

With the loss, the Aggies fall to 6-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference while the Mustangs jump to 8-1-1 and remain undefeated in conference play with a 3-0-1 record. Cal Poly has now won two straight game against the Aggies dating back to last season.

Sophomore Paul Marcoux had a game-high four shots for UC Davis, but only one came on goal. The Aggies outshot the Mustangs, 9-5, but managed to only get three shots on goal to the Mustangs' four. UC Davis also held the advantage in corner kicks, 9-3.

Zamora scored the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute as he headed in a free kick from K.J. Lenehan. Montgomery struck just four minutes later from about 12 yards out off a ball from Brian Jones to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

Cal Poly only managed to get off one shot in the second half, but they made it count as Cumming converted it from 12 yards out off a pass from Jeff Meyer, Jr.

Freshman Ryan McCowan made his first appearance in goal for the Aggies in the second half of the game.

Junior Ahmad Hatifie and freshman Julian Godinez were the only other Aggies to get shots on goal.

UC Davis had a total of three players sitting out this game after receiving red cards during yesterday's game at Santa Barbara.

Cal Poly, who came into the game with the best goals against average in the conference, are now unbeaten in their last seven games.

UC Davis begins a three-game Big West homestand this Wednesday as they host Cal State Northridge at 3 p.m.. It is the longest stretch of home games for the Aggies this season.
