Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by Saint Mary's, 1-0, Friday afternoon in women's soccer action at Aggie Soccer Stadium. The Gaels broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute and held on for the non-conference victory. The match was played on a saturated field with blustery conditions and a temperature in the mid-50's. The contest also marked the end of a stretch of five straight matches, and seven of eight overall, for the Aggies at home.

UC Davis outshot Saint Mary's, 16-12, but it was one of those dozen attempts for the Gaels that proved to be the difference. In the 64th minute, Caitlin Wallace found a loose ball about five yards in front of the goal and was able to send it in for the match's only goal. The play started on a cross by Mika Matsui from the right corner that was met by a UC Davis defender in the box. The re-direct ricocheted off SMC's Allie Weiner and ended up in front of Wallace, who scored her first goal of the season.

The loss overshadowed an excellent defensive display for the Aggies, led by starters Molly Scott, Lauren Huntley, Danielle Contro and Shawna Kelley. In addition, Sarah Peters posted eight saves in goal. One of those eight came on a diving stop of an 18-yard blast by Ashley Nied in the 37th minute.

Samantha Faber led the Aggies with five shots. Dayna Dumont finished with three while Jordan Martin and Marisa Boge each had two shots.

Tara Larson had nine saves on her way to a shutout for the Gaels. Wallace finished with a team-high three shots.

UC Davis is next in action Sunday when it returns to Big West action in a road battle at UC Riverside.
