SEATTLE, Wash. - UC Davis senior Justin Garcia picked up a singles victory, Friday, on the first day of action at the Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Seattle, Wash. Garcia defeated Matt Welty of Saint Mary's in straight sets in a round of 64 match-up and advances to Saturday's round of 32. Garcia is one of six Aggies competing in the regional championships, which feature both a singles and doubles flight. Garcia defeated Welty, 6-4, 6-2, and will now face Oregon's Matt Verdasco with the winner claiming a spot in the round of 16.
In other round of 64 singles action, the Aggies' Henri Landes was defeated, 7-6, 6-4, by Sacramento State's Xavier Barajas-Smith in the round of 128. Stanford's Blake Muller prevailed over Daniel Elefant, 6-4, 6-0. Cal's Jonathan Dahan was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Kevin Liang.
Also in the round of 64, Portland's Charlie Yemm posted a 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Michael Reiser. Washington's Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan defeated Matt Jagiello, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, Jagiello and Liang fell to Nevada's Laurent Garcin and Guerin Smith, 8-6, in the round of 32.
The tournament, which is being hosted by Washington, and continues Saturday and concludes Tuesday.
