Sept. 29, 2006

Final Stats

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - One year removed from becoming an official member of the Big West Conference, UC Davis is serving notice that it will be ready when it completes this final season of transition to Division I. UC Davis continued its stellar play against its future conference foes on Friday when it defeated UC Riverside 1-0 on the road. The win was the fourth straight for the Aggies, all against Big West teams. UC Davis (6-4-0) has yet to allow a goal during the stretch.

Quincy Amarikwa scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 38th minute. The goal came on a break-away and was fired from nearly 20 yards out.

The rest of the match was much like the previous two for the Aggies in that they spent the remaining minutes protecting a one-goal lead. It turned out to be UC Davis' third straight 1-0 victory.

In all, the Aggies outshot the Highlanders 10-9. Amarikwa had four of those attempts. Nicholas Lind posted two shots. Nathan Paterson led UCR with three shots.

UC Davis goalkeeper Charles Warne tallied his fourth straight shutout and sixth of the season. He had one save and lowered his goals against average to 1.16. The last goal he allowed was in the second half of the Xavier match on Sept. 9, a span of over 389 minutes.

The loss dropped UCR to 3-6-1.

The Aggies will try to make it five straight wins on Sunday when they conclude their road trip at Cal State Northridge. The Matadors will enter the match 3-3-3 and are coming off a 5-0 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday.
