Sept. 22, 2006

Final Stats

JACKSON, Miss. - Jordan Martin and Stephanie Schmidt each scored two goals to lead UC Davis past Alabama State, 8-0, Friday afternoon in women's soccer action in Jackson, Miss. The win extended the Aggies' winning streak to five and improved their record to 6-1 on the year. UC Davis scored four goals in each half on its way to its fourth shutout of the season.

Martin scored the game's first goal just 22 seconds into the first half to give UC Davis a 1-0 lead. In the seventh minute, Dana Dumont connected to make it 2-0. Less than six minutes later, UC Davis pushed its lead to 3-0 on Martin's second goal. Annie McAllister finished the first half scoring with her second goal of the season in the 25th minute.

Rochelle VanBuskirk posted her first goal of the season with a goal in the 51st minute to make it 5-0. It was Stephanie Schmidt's turn in the 53rd minute when her goal gave the Aggies a 6-0 lead. Less than nine minutes later, the sophomore connected again before Magdalena Guzinski completed the Aggie attack with her first goal of the season with under two minutes to play.

Megan Daws posted her fourth shutout of the season in goal for the Aggies.

"It was a good win. One of the concerns coming in was jet lag and not being focused, but we had a good practice (on Thursday)," said UC Davis head coach MaryClaire Robinson.

"One of the things about our play coming in was not being able to finish our chances," added Robinson. "Today, we did a much better job of that. I was also pleased with the fact we were able to score early."

With six wins, the Aggies have already surpassed last year's win total. The 6-1 start is the team's best through seven games since opening the 2002 season 6-0-1.

UC Davis concludes its road trip Sunday when it takes on Jackson State. The game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PDT.
