SEATTLE, Wash. - Kevin Forrest and Ely Allen each scored two goals to lead No. 25 past visiting UC Davis, 5-0, Friday night in men's soccer action in Seattle. The game was the season opener for both teams as the Huskies entered the game ranked No. 25 in the the NSCAA/adidas preseason Top-25 poll. Washington outshot the Aggies 18-9 as UC Davis began the first of a two-game stretch in Washington to start the season.
Washington (1-0-0) began the scoring in the 10th minute when Forrest connected for the first of his two goals on a header 12 yards in front of the goal. Allen had the first of two assists on the night on the play.
Just over 18 minutes later, Raphael Cox scored on another header, this time on a cross from Allen into the box, to make it 2-0. The Huskies added one more goal before the half as Allen connected on a penalty kick with 1:13 remaining in the half.
The lead would grow to 4-0 in the 62nd minute as Allen powered in an unassisted goal from about 15 yards out. Forrest completed the scoring with under a minute remaining in the game as he banged in a shot from a deflection in front of the goal. Jo Jo Katz and Mike Cusenza each were credited with an assist on the play.
Nicholas Lind, who led UC Davis (0-1-0) in scoring a year ago, had four of the Aggies' nine shots in the game. Quincy Amarikwa, Sule Anibaba, Hunter Maloney, Dan Campbell and Mariano Arrua also had shots in the game.
Charles Warne got the start in goal for the Aggies and was relieved in the 70th minute by Brian Wickers. Warned had three saves, and Wickers finished with two. The game featured a combined 43 fouls with Washington edging UC Davis, 9-3, in corner kicks.
UC Davis will conclude its road trip Sunday when it faces Gonzaga in Spokane. The Bulldogs will enter the contest with a 1-0-0 record after defeating UNLV, 4-1, in their season opener on Friday.
