DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team completed a three-match homestand Sunday with a 6-1 loss to Loyola Marymount at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. LMU won two out of three doubles matches to claim the first point of the day before winning five singles matches. Five of the six singles matches went three sets. The win improves LMU to 12-10 on the year while the Aggies fall to 6-12.
The Lions posted victories in doubles at No. 1 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead. The Aggies did pick up one win in doubles as Jordan Combs and Jayce Fitch defeated Michael Chan and Nico Terrien, 8-5. The win was the third straight for the duo and their 11th overall this season.
In singles, only one match finished in straight sets as Mike Wojnarowicz defeated Michael Chin, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2. The lone point for the Aggies was secured by Henri Landes as he defeated Linas Cicenas, 7-6, 1-6, 7-5, at No. 4. The win was Landes' sixth straight and 16th overall.
The remaining four matches all went to the Lions in three sets. Three of those were comeback victories as Matt Phillips defeated Casey McMakin, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5, and Chan rallied at No. 6 to defeat Kyle McMakin, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. Also, it was Terrien posting a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 over Fitch.
"I was very pleased with our performance at No. 2 doubles," said UC Davis head coach Daryl Lee. "Jordan and Jayce had another solid performance today just as they did the past two matches."
UC Davis is next in action April 15 when it plays at Nevada. It will be a rematch of Friday's match won by the Aggies at home.
