DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by San Francisco, 5-2, Saturday afternoon in men's tennis action at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Dons won the doubles point before holding on for four wins in singles. Henri Landes continued his red-hot play for the Aggies as he won in singles for the fifth straight time and the eight time in his last nine tries. Michael Chin accounted for the other point for UC Davis (6-11).
USF (6-12) picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the match's first point. The Aggies' lone doubles win came at No. 2 where Jordan Combs and Jayce Fitch defeated Matthew Berry and Mitch Del Rosario, 9-8.
In singles, the Dons posted wins in straight sets at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6. At No. 2, it was Chin who battled back from a first set loss win the second set, 6-2, over Fernando Rodriguez. He then won a third set super tiebreaker, 12-10, to claim a point for the Aggies. Landes also won on a super tiebreaker at No. 5 as he defeated Del Rosario, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5, to improve to 15-8 overall this season.
"I was proud of our team's effort today, said UC Davis head coach Daryl Lee. "Hopefully we'll be able to build on this performance tomorrow against LMU."
UC Davis is next in action Sunday when it is scheduled to face Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m. at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. In the event of rain, the match will be played at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center in Gold River at 6 p.m.
