SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - For the second consecutive match, the UC Davis men's tennis team was defeated 6-1 in a competition that did not mirror the final score. The only difference between its previous match was that its opponent was UC Santa Barbara on Sunday. Just like Saturday's match at Cal Poly, the Aggies' lone point came from a singles victory by Henri Landes.
The match was also reminiscent of Saturday's marathon at Cal Poly in that four of the six singles matches were decided in three sets. On Sunday, UCSB (11-7) wasted little time in winning the doubles point. The Gauchos won all three in doubles as the closest score was an 8-5 victory at No. 1 by Nick Brotman and Anders Dalskov over UCD's Michael Chin and Justin Garcia.
In singles, it was the Aggies who took early control by winning the first set in four of the six matches. The Gauchos, though, would come back to win three of those matches in addition to two other matches claimed in straight sets.
Landes continued his strong play with his sixth victory in his last seven attempts. He defeated Carsten Thorstensen, 7-6, 5-7, 10-3, at No. 5 to account for the only point of the day for the Aggies.
UC Davis (5-10) is next in action April 7 when it begins a three-match homestand at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Aggies will begin the stretch against Nevada this Friday at 2 p.m.
