DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis won its third consecutive match in a 6-1 victory over Swarthmore College, Tuesday afternoon, at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Aggies took five of six in singles play before sweeping doubles. The win gives UC Davis (4-7) its longest winning streak of the season. The doubles team of Michael Chin and Justin Garcia won its seventh straight match.
In singles, the Aggies won at no. 2-6. Michael Chin picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at no. 2 over Brian Park. Jordan Combs defeated Jonathan Lo, 6-1, 6-1, at no. 3. In addition. Justin Garcia claimed a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Adam Wallwork at no. 4. The win was the fourth straight for Garcia, who improved to 7-6 overall.
The Aggies also benefited from wins by Casey McMakin at no. 5 and Henri Landes at no. 6. Both were straight-sets victories. For Landes, the win was his third straight as he improved to 10-7 overall and 5-5 in dual match play.
In doubles, Chin and Garcia teamed up for their seventh straight win as they defeated Park and Zach Rodd, 8-4, at no. 1. Combs and Jayce Fitch defeated Lo and Sam Sidhu, 8-2, at no. 2. At no. 3, it was the debut of Aggie freshman Jeffrey List who, along with Daniel Elefant, defeated J.J. England and Mark Greenburg, 8-1.
"We're taking small steps in the right direction," said UC Davis head coach Daryl Lee. "Hopefully, we can continue to do that."
The conclusion of the match begins and 18-day stretch for UC Davis without a contest. The Aggies are next in action March 25 when they face Hawaii-Hilo in Honolulu. The next time UC Davis plays at home is April 7 against Nevada.
