STOCKTON, Calif. - Senior Jayce Fitch, junior Justin Garcia, junior Daniel Elefant and freshman Kevin Liang each advanced to semifinal matches in their respective singles brackets to highlight UC Davis action on the second day of the Pacific ITA Fall Invitational at Hal Nelson Tennis Courts Saturday.
Fitch, the fourth seed of the 'B' singles flight, beat Pacific's Vegerd Veskimagi in a 6-1, 6-4 decision, then split sets with Nevada's Augustin Myard, winning 7-5, 6-7 (0), 6-4. He will face top-seeded Marco Foelz of Fresno Pacific in Sunday morning's semifinal. Teammate Justin Garcia swept Robert Price of Pacific, 6-4, 6-3; then went three sets with Nevada's Arzhang Derakhshani, winning by scores of 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Garcia will face USF's Asaf Cohen in the opposite side of the 'B' draw Sunday.
Liang double-bageled Brian von Wagner in his opening match in the 'C' draw, then beat Pacific's Maros Blaha by a 6-0, 6-1 final. He will face teammate and top-seed Elefant, who handled Nevada's Tony Bulich by scores of 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinal.
UC Davis also claimed Saturday wins in three of the four doubles round robins. The team of Elefant and Fitch beat Pacific's Chase Oliphant and Maros Blaha to finish at 4-0 in that pool.
The Fall Invitational continues through Sunday.
