DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis women's water polo, which has been in its fall training mode for the better part of the fall quarter, finally kicks into head-to-head match action in November. The Aggies will split up in a Blue-Gold intrasquad scrimmage on November 4, then head to Stanford for a fall play day on November 12. Saturday's Blue-Gold will precede the Aggie men's water polo team's match against Pacific.
Last year, the Aggies enjoyed their most successful season since becoming a varsity program in 1997. UC Davis went 22-12 for the year, won the Western Water Polo Association title in an upset against Loyola Marymount. The Aggies went on to its first appearance in the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championships, hosted of the home turf of Schaal Aquatics Center.
UC Davis graduated just one senior starter from the 2006 squad, and returns All-WWPA performers Katherine O'Rourke, Christi Raycraft and Jessica Soza.
The November 12 play day includes teams from the WWPA and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The schedule from Avery Aquatic Center is as follows:
8 a.m. - Arizona State vs. San Jose State
9 a.m. - Stanford vs. UC Davis
10 a.m. - Santa Clara vs. San Jose State
11 a.m. - UC Davis vs. Arizona State
Noon - Stanford vs. Santa Clara men's game
1:15 p.m. - Stanford vs. Arizona State
2:15 p.m. - Santa Clara vs. UC Davis
3:15 p.m. - Santa Clara vs. Arizona State
4:15 p.m. - Stanford vs. San Jose State
