MORAGA, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by Saint Mary's, 2-0, Friday afternoon in women's soccer action at Saint Mary's Stadium. The host Gaels scored a goal in each half on their way to just their second victory of the season. The loss was only the third for UC Davis. Saint Mary's snapped a 10-match winless streak and improved to 2-8-2. UC Davis fell to 7-3-1 on the year.
Jessica Menzhuber powered Saint Mary's, scoring her first two goals of the season. She connected in the 24th minute on an assist from Joelle Gizzi to give the Gaels a 1-0 lead. The score would remain that way for more than 50 minutes before Menzhuber scored on a header in the 76th minute. Sarah Churchill received credit for the assist.
Saint Mary's outshot UC Davis 12-11. The Aggies held a 9-3 advantage in the first half and were outshot 9-2 in the second half. Megan Daws collected six saves for UC Davis, and Jennifer Zenovich had four for Saint Mary's.
UC Davis is next in action Oct. 13 when it plays at Cal State Northridge.
