Final Stats

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Freshmen Denise Thomas and Heidi Garrett each scored goals to lead UC Riverside to a 2-0 win over UC Davis in non-conference women's collegiate women's soccer action at UCR Soccer Stadium Thursday.

The Aggies drop to 8-6-2 for the season. The Highlanders assure themselves of a fifth consecutive winning season, improving to 9-7-1 overall.

Riverside scored its first goal on Linda Allen's steal, which she sent upfield to Thomas for a goal in the 40th minute. Garrett then added the insurance goal in the 70th minute. Amber Plumlee's fired a free kick, which Aggie goalkeeper Heather Finlayson stopped. Garrett picked up the rebound and converted to put the Highlanders up by a 2-0 advantage.

UC Davis had an early chance to take a lead in the eighth minute, as defender Katie Snyder sent a shot off the crossbar, then Highlander keeper Tawny Poggio stopped Annie McAllister's putback attempt.

The Aggies outshot their hosts by a 16-12 margin, putting seven on frame. Poggio finished with six saves and the shutout. Finlayson, making her first start in net, posted three saves overall.

UC Davis women's soccer finishes the 2006 season -- and its fourth and final year of the reclassification period to Division I status -- in a road game at Pacific on Sunday.
