Final Stats

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - UC Davis stayed unbeaten against Big West Conference teams after forcing a 2-2 tie against Cal State Northridge in men's soccer action in Northridge. Quincy Amarikwa and Paul Cain each scored goals for the Aggies. Cain's goal tied the match at 2-2 with one minute remaining in regulation. With the tie, UC Davis is now 6-4-1. The Aggies have posted a 4-0-1 mark in their last five matches, all of which have been against Big West foes.

"It was an incredible effort by our team," said UC Davis head coach Dwayne Shaffer. "We've been on the road for four days and were able to get a tie against a team that has been playing very well recently. For us to battle back shows a lot of heart and a lot of character. We played outstanding."

CSUN (3-3-4) took an early lead with a goal in the fourth minute. Sunghyun Kim scored his fourth goal of the season on an assist from Taylor Canel to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. That margin would hold up through the remainder of the first half.

UC Davis tied the match in the 54th minute when Amarikwa scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Less than 13 minutes later, the Matadors regained the lead on a Moy Gomez goal to make it 2-1 heading into the final minutes of regulation.

The CSUN defense continued to preserve the one-goal lead before Cain connected on a header with one minute left in the second half. Ian Conklin was credited with the assist as the Aggies tied the match at 2-2.

UC Davis outshot CSUN 18-16. The Aggies had one shot in the overtime periods while the Matadors posted two shots in each extra period.

Charles Warne had two saves in goal for UC Davis, and Kevin Guppie had four for CSUN.

UC Davis is next in action Wednesday afternoon when it begins a two-match homestand against UC Irvine. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Aggie Soccer Stadium.

"I'd like to encourage all of our fans to come on out and support the team this week," added Shaffer. "UC Davis men's soccer is an exciting team to watch."

The Aggies conclude the homestand next Saturday against Cal Poly.
