Fresno State Defeats UC Davis, 6-1.

FRESNO, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team was defeated by Fresno State, 6-1, Sunday in Fresno. The Bulldogs, ranked no. 67 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, took the doubles point before clinching the match with wins in the first three completed singles matches. The Aggies' lone win came from Casey McMakin at no. 5 singles.

In doubles, Fresno State (0-1) claimed the first victory at no. 2 when Jakub Cech and Charles Irie defeated C. McMakin and Kyle McMakin, 8-5. The Bulldogs clinched the point when Sam Gibbs and Sergiu Modoc defeated Jordan Combs and Jayce Fitch, 8-5, at no. 1.

In singles, Fresno State took a 2-0 lead when Irie defeated Michael Chin, 6-3, 6-3, at no. 2. Sam Tadevosian followed at no. 3 with a straight sets victory over Michael Chin to make it 3-0. The Bulldogs clinched the match when Modoc defeated Combs, 6-4, 7-5, at no. 1. C. McMakin defeated Gibbs, 7-6, 6-4, at no. 5 to account for the Aggies' only point. The final match of the day was a three-set thriller at no. 4 where Jordi Ballester outlasted Henri Landes, 6-3, 6-7, 10-7.

"I definitely respect our team's effort today," said UC Davis head coach Daryl Lee. "I think the final score is a little deceiving because the match lasted about three and-a-half hours. We gave them a good fight."

UC Davis (0-3) is next in action Jan. 29 when it takes on Pacific in Stockton.
