FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Sophomore Megan Wall scored an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute to break a 1-1 tie and lift UC Davis to a 2-1 victory over Northern Arizona at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Mountain Classic women's soccer tournament at Lumberjack Stadium Sunday.
The Aggies enjoy their first win, improving to 1-3 for the season.
UC Davis jumped out to an early lead when Danielle Contro's corner kick set up Julia Gamlen for the team's first goal of the season, giving the Aggies a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. Contro had entered the game less than a minute before recording her assist.
UC Davis outshot NAU by a 9-4 margin before the halftime break, including shots by Gamlen, Kristin Aja and Alison Green in the closing minutes of the first half. But the Lumberjacks took more offensive control early in the second half, accounting for four of the first five shot attempts after halftime. With 19:30 remaining in the game, Kayla Bauder assisted Cee Cee Odorfer for a game-tying goal. Ten minutes later, Wall punched in the go-ahead score with her only shot of the game.
Aggie goalkeeper Krystyn Lizak recorded six saves in net. Her counterpart Andrea Berra had four saves for Northern Arizona.
UC Davis returns to action with a home game against Nevada on September 10.
