U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Sophomore Megan Wall scored her team-high third goal of the season then teammate Dayna Dumont scored her first as UC Davis shut out Air Force, 2-0, in non-conference women's collegiate soccer action Sunday.
The Aggies, who are undefeated on the road, improve to 3-4-2 for the year. The Falcons move to 3-7-1 overall.
Wall broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute when midfielder Heather Finlayson fired a shot from 20 yards deep that caromed off the cross bar. Wall rebounded the shot, then headed it back in from eight yards out.
At the 74:37 mark, Dumont beat the Air Force defense along the right flank, sending her shot into the lower right corner for the goal. Freshman Danielle Contro earned the assist on the play, her second of the year.
The host Falcons outshot the Aggies by a 17-12 margin, but UC Davis goalkeepers Krystyn Lizak and Megan Daws combined for seven saves in front of their net. Daws, who had five saves in the second half, earned her first victory of the season.
Junior striker Brittney Perkowski led Air Force with five shots, including three on goal. Katherine Taylor added three attempts, while Taryn Nicolaides and Roni Yadlin each had two. Falcon keeper Jennifer Drew posted a pair of saves, stopping shots by Aggies Lindsey Raymond and Roxanne Croze.
UC Davis, which sports a 2-0-2 record on the road, is next in action at defending Big West Conference champion UC Santa Barbara on Friday, September 30.
