IRVINE, Calif. - Senior middle blocker Amanda Vasquez had a match-high 18 kills and hit .548 to lead UC Irvine to a 30-20, 30-17, 30-18 sweep of UC Davis in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at Crawford Court Saturday.

The Aggies, who have lost 10 straight matches, fall to 2-13 for the year. The Anteaters improve to 6-7.

Vasquez committed just one error in 31 attempts to amass her high hitting average. She also had six blocks and two aces during the match. Teammate Whitney Pavlik also contributed to UC Irvine's team rate of .476. She had eight kills and an error on 11 swings for a .636 average, while freshman Cassidy Captrista was .750 on 9-0-12 hitting.

Freshman outside hitter Chantal Paschetta had 10 kills to lead UC Davis offensively, but no other teammate had more than three. The Aggies hit just .082 for the match, although they improved to a respectable .217 in the third game. Redshirt freshman Kelly Patterson was a bright spot on UC Davis' offensive effort, sparking her team with a pair of kills in her one-game stint.

Sophomore setter Katelyn Astruc, who graduated from Woodbridge HS in 2003, played before a hometown crowd of 435. She had 11 of her team's possible 22 assists and contributed six digs on defense. Astruc's ace and three Paschetta kills helped UC Davis close the gap to just 11-10 in Game 2. However, the Anteaters pulled away late in the match with a 6-0 run, taking a late 27-15 edge.

The Aggies return to action with home matches against Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside on September 30 and October 1, respectively.
