Early Goals Hold Up As Bears Blank Aggies

Sept. 18, 2005

Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore back Kerrilyn Carney and senior forward Meghan Schreck each scored goals within a span of two minutes to lead Brown University to a 3-0 win over UC Davis in non-conference women's collegiate soccer action at Aggie Field Sunday.

The Aggies fall to 2-4-1 on the season. The Bears even their record at 4-4-0.

Carney converted Kim LaVere's corner kick for her team's first goal in the 25th minute. As the loose ball eluded the UC Davis defense, Carney virtually walked the ball into the Aggie net. Then 1:40 later, in the 27th minute, Schreck doubled the Bears' lead as she beat a pair of defenders and fired from 12 years out.

Brown managed to seal the game in the 86th minute on a goal by junior Kathryn Moos. The Brown forward collected the rebound off Kathleen Waddell's initial shot attempt, then slid it between the posts to put her team up by a 3-0 advantage.

LaVere was credited with the assist for her corner kick to Carney, then Waddell earned the assists on Brown's second two scores.

UC Davis outshot the Bears by a 16-7 edge, getting five shots from sophomore Julia Gamlen and four more outside attempts by senior Christen Rauschnot. Bears goalkeeper Hilary Wilson posted seven saves against the onslaught of Aggie tries as she completed the shutout win. Wilson also figured heavily on the majority of UC Davis' eight corner kicks, pulling down the serves to end any further Aggie scoring threats.

The Aggies return to action on September 23 at Colorado College.
