Aggie Unbeaten Streak Ended In 2-1 Loss To Pioneers

Sept. 18, 2005

Box Score

DENVER, Colo. - Denver scored shortly before the halftime break and again soon after to beat UC Davis, 2-1, and snapping the Aggies' unbeaten streak in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Pioneer Field Sunday.

UC Davis moves to 3-1-2 for the year. The Pioneers improve to 3-2-1 overall.

Senior Thomas Flynn took a midfield pass from Zack Kobilca to convert his third goal of the season with 1:22 remaining in the first half, giving the Pioneers the initial lead. The scoring play was the third shot by Denver during the waning minutes before the break. Blake Gaiser had fired a shot off the post in the 41st minute and had taken the first attempt during Flynn's scoring drive.

Then just 1:07 into the second half, junior Jacob Chase found senior attacker Scott Davidson to craft a 2-0 lead for Denver.

Sophomore defender Matt Slagle scored his first career goal in the 75th minute to prevent a shutout loss for UC Davis. In all, the Aggies managed just two shots with Slagle's being the only attempt on goal.

Nine different Pioneers accounted for 15 total shots against the Aggie cage. UC Davis goalkeeper Charles Warne posted four saves against the two goals. Denver also had all six corner-kick opportunities in the contest.

The Aggies remain on the road to face Big West Conference members UC Irvine and UC Riverside on September 23 and 25, respectively.
