DAVIS, Calif. - Senior midfielder Shelby Crabtree assisted freshman Nicole McAllister for a goal in the 17th minute to account for all the scoring in Portland State's 1-0 victory over UC Davis in a non-conference women's collegiate soccer game at Aggie Field Sunday.

The Aggies drop to 0-2 for the season. The Vikings even their record at 1-1.

Just 16 minutes, 35 seconds into the first half, Crabtree sent a long pass to McAllister who beat two UC Davis defenders and planted a shot into the back of the net. After that play, PSU did not manage a shot for almost 18 minutes while the Aggies had several opportunities.

"We made one mistake and they made us pay," said UC Davis head coach MaryClaire Robinson. "Then we had chances. We had an opportunity to end the first half. We had an opportunity at the end of the game. We got in behind them, we were dangerous, we were in there attacking. We just didn't finish, and that was the missing piece today."

PSU had a chance to extend its lead early in the second half. McAllister took a shot at the Aggie net but goalkeeper Krystyn Lizak knocked it down. Junior forward Jamie Blakesley picked up the rebound and fired again, sailing the attempt high over the crossbar. Less than a minute later, Viking midfielder Kari Otani sent a third shot over the rail.

Aggie junior defender Katie Snyder nearly tied the game on two occasions in the middle stretch of the second half. She drilled a free kick just by the right post in the 66th minute, then fired a 20-yarder that Viking goalkeeper Niki Brooks snared.

UC Davis threatened again down the final stretch of the game. On the team's sixth corner kick, Snyder planted a corner kick into the middle of the penalty box to a leaping Julia Gamlen. However, the shot missed high over the target. Sita Kuteira and Annie McAllister also managed attempts in the last two minutes, but neither found the net.

The Aggies return to action for the La Quinta Inn & Suites Mountain Classic at Northern Arizona on September 2. UC Davis will face Boise State in Friday's action then the tournament hosts on Sunday.
