Dec. 10, 2005

Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Despite a late rally with two minutes remaining in the game, the UC Davis men's basketball team fell to Idaho State, 75-68, Saturday night at The Pavilion in Davis, Calif. Five Aggies finished in double figures with Vince Oliver leading the team with 15 points. Phil Rasmussen had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas Juillerat also scored 13 while Kyle Brucculeri added 12 points. Rommel Marentez scored 10. ISU's Slim Millien led all scorers with 20 points.

The Aggies (1-6) were playing catch-up the entire night but nearly erased an 11-point lead with two minutes remaining before the Bengals (6-1) held on for the seven-point victory.

Idaho State started the game with a 7-1 lead and held the Aggies without a field goal until the 15:51 mark. The Bengals led by as many as seven points in the first half before taking a 37-33 lead into the break.

To start the second half, Idaho State edged its lead to 53-44 with 10:47 left before the Aggies mounted a mini-run. With 8:48 remaining, Kyle Brucculeri connected from beyond the arc to cap an 8-2 run and pull UC Davis within 55-52. Brucculeri finished the night with 12 points.

The Bengals came right back with a 9-2 run and led 64-54 at the 5:46 mark. They took their largest lead of the night at 71-60 with 2:23 remaining before the Aggies put together their biggest run of the game.

A Rasmussen trey with 2:07 left cut the deficit to eight points. Juillerat made a jumper with 1:10 left to make it 71-65. After a steal by Brucculeri, Juillerat completed a three-point play and the Aggies trailed 71-68 with 49 seconds remaining. That would be as close as UC Davis would get as Idaho State made four free throws in the final 15 seconds to account for the game's final points.

ISU shot 55 percent for the game while holding UC Davis to 40 percent. The Aggies outrebounded the Bengals, 34-32.

UC Davis is next in action Dec. 17 when it faces Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first round of the Saint Mary's Shamrock Office Solutions Classic in Moraga, Calif.
